Wienerberger India, a wholly owned subsidiary of Austrian firm Wienerberger, has launched Porotherm, a dry-fix solution, for the construction industry. Porotherm Dry Fix system comes with ground clay hollow blocks and super glue that binds the block together eliminating the need for water or sand. According to the company release, price of the product is on par with the conventional construction method. Before the launch, the product was tested in Bengaluru for three years and was successful.

In 2006, Wienerberger India was incorporated in India with its very first Asian plant in Kunigal, 70 Kms from Bangalore, to produce high quality clay building materials for the local market. The facility, which went on stream in 2009, has the distinction of being a first of a kind fully automated production unit for manufacturing of clay bricks in India. With a capacity of over 150 million brick units per annum, it is one of the biggest units of its kind in Asia. The facility in Bengaluru, which can produce two million Porotherm blocks, is running on full capacity. Dry Fix, the super glue, is imported from Europe.
