WelcomHotel Amritsar becomes Punjab’s 1st LEED Platinum certified hotel

WelcomHotel Amritsar is now Punjab’s 1st LEED Platinum certified hotel and ITC Hotel’s 18th LEED platinum certified property. ITC Hotels is also the first and largest chain of hotels in the world with maximum LEED platinum certified properties. It should be noted that the ITC Green Centre was the first corporate building in India to be LEED Platinum rated as well as the biggest Platinum rated green building in the world in 2004.

Platinum rating is the highest category of certification preceded by Gold, Silver and Certified. Different levels of green building certification are awarded based on the total credits earned. However, every green new building should meet certain mandatory requirements, which are non-negotiable.

Spread across eight acres, Welcomhotel Amritsar has achieved a Platinum rating under LEED 2011 for India NC (New Construction) program within just seven months of its launch. Welcomhotel Amritsar met the coveted rating for energy efficiency by using 33% less energy, reducing the water consumption by 46%, developing rain water harvesting capacity of 30% of the peak rainfall, and reducing the cooling demand with over 75% of roof area covered with high Solar Reflective Index tiles, among many such sustainable initiatives.

WelcomHotel Amritsar is built around a collonaded mansion, the erstwhile Sandhanwalia Haveli, which traces its origins to the 1900s and has been restored to preserve the cultural, architectural and culinary nuances of that era. Arched entrances and doorways are inspired by the local building vernacular, nodding to ancient temples and palaces built and designed by a diverse group of settlers and traders over the course of many centuries.

In short, it’s a unique blend of vintage architecture & endless serenity with sophisticated facilities, amid tranquil surroundings.
