UP architecture students visit IGRMS

As a part of their academic schedule, 45 students and four faculty members of the School of Architecture DTC, Grater Noida (UP) conducted a study tour to Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS), an anthropology museum located in Bhopal. The objective of the visit was to study the various typologies and built up spaces of vernacular architecture of different States.

Delhi Technical Campus is affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and is approved by AICTE. The Institute imparts technical education in the fields of Engineering, Architecture and Management.

At the museum, students were introduced to the vernacular architecture of this museum in brief. Students also visited the open-air exhibition and Veethi Sankul indoor exhibition building of the museum. The students were also shown the art of pottery making by the traditional artists of Manipur.

IGRMS or National Museum of Humankind or Museum of Man is an anthropology museum located in Bhopal, to present an integrated story of the evolution of man and culture with special reference to India. It spreads over an area of about 200 acres on the Shyamla Hills in the city. This museum depicts the story of mankind in time and space. IGRMS has a few permanent exhibitions, broadly categorized as a) Open-exhibitions, b) Indoor galleries (Veethi-Sankul and Bhopal Gallery) and c) Periodical/ Temporary exhibitions. These clusters of open-air exhibitions are partially developed and opened for the public – Tribal Habitat. Coastal Village, Desert Village, Himalayan Village, Mythological Trail, Traditional Technology park.
