Soon Habibganj Railway station will have a new look with international standards thanks to the station makeover efforts that are being undertaken. Almost Rs 100 crore will be spent to make Habibganj station the best in the country and the new-look station will be ready in 2019. Next year, you may get to see all passenger amenities one gets at an international airport and perhaps more at the newly re-designed station.
The most interesting part of this makeover efforts is that the government won’t be shelling out any money for this project and the entire cost will be borne by the private party. The project is being implemented under Public Private Partnership model wherein the private partner will shell out the money required for the project and in return will get four parcels of land, measuring 13,000 Sq feet towards the east and west side of the station under 45 years lease agreement. The private partner, Bansal Construction Ltd will be using the land for commercial purposes.
Some of the existing structures of the old building will be demolished and new structures will be built and existing foot over bridge will be widened. Elevators and escalators will be installed and foot over bridge will be covered. There will be VIP Lounge and platform designs will be changed completely. Food courts, AC waiting and rest rooms, restaurants and eating joints will be part of the new design.
However existing arch over the facade will be left untouched to remind the visitors of the station’s past.
