The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) will be building a six-storey office complex on 3.23 acres in Sector 9 near the existing building in Chandigarh. Apart from six floors, the building will have two basements. The layout and the area of each floor has already been finalised. The project is estimated to cost Rs 65 crore.
The CHB has also decided that construction would take place using green building technology. All provisions such as rainwater harvesting system, rooftop garden, solar photovoltaic (SPV) power plant and firefighting have been provided in the plan.
The present office building of the CHB is too small to accommodate all the departments of the Board. With the construction of the new CHB office complex, the problem of the shortage of space for offices of the Administration will be resolved. With the construction of new building, all the departments which are scattered all over Chandigarh will be shifted to the new building. This will not only reduce administrative cost but also smoothen the operations of the Board.
