Greenlam develops World’s first SARS-CoV-2virus resistant laminate

Greenlam Industries has developed laminates that are effective against SARS-CoV-2 with 99% efficacy. The test was conducted by Rajiv Gandhi Center of Biotechnology (Govt. of India recognized laboratory), Trivandrum, Kerala.

“We have tested our laminate on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus. The test was conducted by Rajiv Gandhi Center of Biotechnology (Govt. of India recognized laboratory), Trivandrum, Kerala; and the results were successful. The test result indicates that Greenlam Laminates are effective against SARS-CoV-2with 99% efficacy within 30 minutes of exposure to the laminate surface and completely eliminates in 45 minutes and beyond,” says the note sent by the company to exchanges.

Greenlam has been producing laminates and compacts with antivirus, antibacterial and antifungal attributes and with this new test result, Greenlam will be able to offer laminates resistant to SARSCoV-2. This makes Greenlam the World’s first proven SARS-CoV-2virus resistant laminate brand.

Meanwhile, the company is embarking on a new Greenfield manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh with a capacity of 1.5mn sheets to meet the increasing demand, both in domestic and international markets. The company expects the construction of new capacity to begin by early part of next financial year. The work on the new unit is expected to complete within 12-15 months. The company will be spending about Rs 180 crore on new unit which will be funded through internal accruals. The company has already spent Rs 50 crore on acquiring land.

During the first quarter of the current financial year the company introduced commodity laminates which has helped the company to gain market share from unorganised sector. Also, supply chain disruptions and working capital issues faced by unorganised players have helped the company to further strengthen its position in the segment.
